This following study, developed as part of the Deconfining project, explores innovative ways to strengthen international cultural cooperation between Africa and Europe through art, policy, and creative industries.
Drawing on insights from an intercontinental team, interviews, and stakeholder discussions, the study identifies key opportunities for collaboration and transformation. With a focus on shared history, capacity-building, accessible programming, and stronger networks, the document offers practical recommendations for policymakers, cultural organisations, local stakeholders and governments, includin Capitals of Culture, to take action.
It proposes flagship initiatives like intercontinental creative industry labs, youth culture forums, and mobility funds designed to drive cooperation forward and reshape frameworks, address global challenges, and unlock the full potential of cultural partnerships across continents.
